What Christmas Really Gives Us: A Holy Revelation
“For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” — Galatians 1: 11-12
During Advent we are exploring what Christmas really gives us. We have looked at the gift of God’s promises: promises of strength, love, and incarnate presence in our lives. We explored the gift of endurance as seen in the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The story shows us that we too have a capacity for endurance. We are reminded that when we travel the hard rough road with a heart of faith, those events and times we endure can generate deeper meaning, joy, and even new life. This Sunday we will celebrate the gift of the holy revelation revealed in the birth of baby Jesus. The Holy Revelation changes everything. In the birth of the divine Christ child, humanity and creation itself is revealed to be drenched in God’s presence and creativity. It is a radical revelation about our relatedness to God, nature, and humanity. Have you had any revelations recently that changed your life for the better? This Sunday we will explore how the gift of a Holy Revelation begins with the birth of divine child but can continue to creatively unfold in each of our lives.
