Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans
because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” — Luke 13: 2-3
In this Sunday’s scripture reading, Jesus is disturbed with those who are wagging their tongues and placing blame and pointing their fingers at those who must have gotten what they deserved. Instead, Jesus admonishes them to be concerned with the character and direction of their own lives, lest they perish. Jesus’ answer to the people—even the upright and godly ones—is to repent. Repentance is often misunderstood. It isn’t just regret or sorrow for a past wrong, but it means turning our entire lives toward God and God’s purposes. This Sunday, we explore the liberating and life affirming power of repentance.
