Remember the days of old, consider the years long past; ask your father,
and he will inform you; your elders, and they will tell you. — Deuteronomy 32:7
One of the central charges throughout the Bible is the charge to remember. The people are being reminded to remember what God has done or they are extolling what God has done in the past as a way of finding hope for the future. This is more than a retrieval of information. It is an act of intentional remembering. We are reminded to bring back the wisdom, the values, the teachings of our ancestors, into our lives today. On this memorial Sunday, we will explore what in our own faith history we might “go back and get” to give us hope for our living today.
Adinkra are symbols from Ghana that represent concepts or aphorisms.
The Adinkra symbol of the Sankofa means “Go Back and Get it.”
It emphasizes the importance of learning from the past to inform the future,
encouraging a return to knowledge and wisdom to move forward.
