Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!— Psalm 27:14
On the church calendar this marks the beginning of the new church year. It is significant that the church year doesn’t begin with a defining Christian event such as Christmas with the birth of Jesus, or with Easter and the triumph of the resurrection. Rather, it begins with a prophecy, a promise, and a hope for a wholly different reality to be fulfilled sometime in the future. Advent asks us to believe, to prepare, and to wait for something good and beautiful and new to happen. Join us as we explore how we can wait for a new light to shine in our lives.
Our Wheat Ridge Ringers will be ringing in Advent with Greensleeves and Adeste Fideles. Following the service, we will share a potluck of soups and breads, followed by the “Hanging of the Greens” as we decorate our sanctuary. David Conner will play some favorite Christmas tunes as we decorate. Children will paint windows downstairs.
